Initial Teacher Education at Palmerston
We are very proud to be a Lead School Alliance for the Cardiff Partnership.
This means that we help lead training and support student teachers. Our teachers are all highly trained mentors who are committed to supporting student teachers become confident and enthusiastic teachers for the future. This means that we will have groups of students on placement at our school during the academic year. We also train larger groups during School Led Training days where they are able to combine theory and practice. They are given opportunities to watch lessons and discuss pedagogy in a school setting. We believe that it is a mutually beneficial partnership where we can share ideas and ensure we are all at the forefront of educational change. |
What is the Cardiff Partnership?
The Cardiff Partnership for Initial teacher education (ITE) is a collaboration between Cardiff Metropolitan University, schools, two Russell Group universities, two regional consortia and City of Cardiff Council.
The Cardiff Partnership will provide a research-informed clinical practice model of ITE underpinned by key principles of the highly-regarded Oxford Internship scheme, whilst developing research and continuing professional development (CPD) partnerships with the University of Oxford, Cardiff University and other providers in Wales, through the University and Schools Council for the Education of Teachers in Wales (USCET). The Cardiff Partnership is committed to the planning of all ITE content, structure and pedagogical strategies with our Lead Partnership Schools/Lead Alliances with the aim of developing future teachers for Wales with the skills, knowledge and ambition to lead the changes outlined in ‘Successful Futures.
"The Cardiff Partnership for Initial Teacher Education provides our students with the opportunity to work in some of our strongest schools. Our students are exceptionally well supported, by our staff at Cardiff Met and in our partner schools."
Julia Longville, Dean of Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy
